Now that the smoke has cleared how ’bout a race?
by Charlie Turner
I'm Charlie Turner co-host of the syndicated, mostly NASCAR radio show On Pit Row. Thanks for stopping by OnPitRow.com and the Bench Racing with Steve and Charlie blog. Oh yeah, Steve is an idiot.

After close to forty eight hours of first speculation about, and then analysis of the Massacre at Mooresville, the Cup boys are back on pavement and qualifying at the Lady in Black.
If the Car of Tomorrow machines are as bad as Dale Junior and others say they are, this race could set the program back significantly. Darlington is tough enough when a driver likes his handling. We’ll see.
If my math is correct, with about ten cars to qualify, it looks like D J and Mikey will miss another one. Not by much. They needed a better Fast Lap.

Agreed, Charlie.
This is the real first competition test that could make or break the opinion of the new vehicle.
Unless it’s a complete debacle, I can’t see any significant changes.
What I am wondering though is if it is more of a “teams just need to get used to it” deal, or if it truly is an issue with the car.
That’s something that a handful of races won’t be able to determine.
Thus far, the only thing determined is that while Hendrick was being mocked for their aggressive platform on testing and working with the new car, all that effort is paying some pretty nice dividends.
