Two in a row for the Smokester and heading to a Joe Gibbs Racing stronghold. I like Stewart’s chances at a three-peat in the green mountains of eastern PA.Â
Speaking of smoke - Â maybe this week some of it will clear and we’ll know whether Kyle the younger Busch will be Tony’s newest team-mate and which Pepsi product will adorn Dale Jr.’s ride and souvies.
Or maybe we’ll just get another terrific race, like the last two. The odds of that at the Pennsylvania triangle aren’t great. It seems like three fast corners and three long straights stretch it out just a bit too much.
So try our four fast corners instead. And don’t be shy about telling whomever else answers these missives how much they missed the point.
1)Â Did NASCAR make a mistake by opening pit road for pit stops, on lap 137, with Junior sitting prone in the middle of pit road?
2) Was there anything to the “love tap” by Kevin Harvick on the back straight after the race; or was it really a congratulatory bump??
3) Will the merger of Robert Yates Racing with Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing pave the way for Sebastien Bourdais to move to NASCAR?
4)Â Grade ESPN’s first race back in the Cup Series.
Four corners - 100 words or less each. It’s the Fast Lap blog. We’re looking for different points of view to use ON PIT ROW. Join the party.

July 23, 2007 11:37 am CDT 4 CommentsFor the past week, I have been reading a biography on Albert Einstein.Â
Stop laughing Wronkowicz.
The theories of relativity and space-time seem oddly appropriate this week as NASCAR has been relatively silent and time, for us NASCAR junkies has been dragging.
There will be no more of that however. Bring on the Brickyard 400 and a race that promises to be about as exciting as watching Steve fix a faucet - but more colorful. Hey, everything is relative.
What could be more exciting, relatively speaking, than four fast flat, right angle left turns at the home of the formerly, Greatest Spectacle in Racing. Remember, don’t speed ON PIT ROW. 100 words or less per answer. You can write a thesis of a counter comment, though.
1)Â Who will win a championship first–Dale Earnhardt Jr. or Kyle (Rowdy) Busch?
2) What must ESPN do to live up to its NASCAR broadcasting legacy?
3) Bobby Ginn is being compared to JD Stacy who came into NASCAR in the 80’s–bought up a bunch of teams and was gone within a year. Is this a fair comparison?
4)Â Should NASCAR increase its drug testing policy because of the Aaron Fike incident?
What could be better that livening up your life with spirited NASCAR debate, Fast Lap style? Get involved and we’ll make you a part of the Fastest two Hours on Radio. Relatively speaking.

July 16, 2007 10:52 am CDT 5 CommentsThe Chicagoland Cup race was, predictably, not very exciting. Tony Stewart and Jimmy Johnson pretty well had the field covered in their Chevies. Once a blown tire took JJ out, in a big scary way, Smoke only had Matt Kennseth to deal with. No problem.
Jamie McMurray may have put too many nails in his Chase coffin to overcome. The win at Daytona was big. Following that with a 38th place this week might kill his hopes to Chase the final Nextel Cup.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. didn’t help his cause much either and consistent Ryan Newman is putting the heat on the #8.
The next week promises to be full of news conferences and sponsor announcements. Just more blogger fodder.Â
You can try your hand at different lines for these four, fast corners while we wait with baited breath for news of the fate of the eight.
1) Kyle Petty admitted during the TNT broadcast that the race was a snoozer. What is worse, long green flag runs, or too many “competition” yellows??
2) If Coach Gibbs needed to be brought in to settle the Stewart/Hamlin war: would Henry Kissinger need to be on retainer if Rowdy Busch were added to the lineup?
3) Which deal will happen first, Rowdy’s new team announcement or Budweiser’s new spokes-model?
4)Â When NASCAR announced that the CoT would go Full Time in 2008; should they have added a cookie cutter race to prep for next year?
I may add one more category to my personal rant here. I am sick and tired of this Rowdy rubbish. The only Rowdy I acknowledge is Clint Eastwood - and Kyle Busch ain’t Clint Eastwood. Shrub, I can live with. If he actually hits somebody - with something other that a car - and takes the consequenses like a man - maybe rowdy-like would work. But I doubt it.
At any rate, jump on in and tell us what you think. We used Luke’s opinions ON PIT ROW last week. If we like what you contribute, we may use yours on this week’s show.
Chicagoland takes us back to cookie-cutter Fast Laps

July 9, 2007 8:49 am CDT 6 CommentsJamie McMuray did what he had to do at Daytona. He won a race and thus gives himself at least some chance of making the Chase for the last Nextel Cup. It was a long time between wins for a guy in high quality, high profile rides. I’d say Jack Roush’s confidence in Jamie was justified Saturday. The performance was a nice follow-up to the Infineon close call.
Tony Stewart somehow got backed in to at 185 mph, again. This time it was his teammate, Denny Hamlin. Don’t these guys know he’s back there? Maybe Smoke needs a “wide load” sign on his windshield.
Try these four, fast ones - and remember, 100 words or less.
1)Â Who do you blame–Denny Hamlin, Tony Stewart or Just a Racin’ Deal?
2) Is Sprint replacing Nextel as big of a deal as was Nextel replacing Winston as the Cup sponsor?
3) Should NASCAR go back to two days of qualifying to help eliminate having qualifying rained out ?
4) Rowdy Busch was hacked off at his teammates–Jeff Gordon in particular–for not drafting with him at the end of the Pepsi 400. Is Rowdy the “dead man walking” at Hendrick?

Daytona in July - 400 miles of firecracker Fast Laps

July 2, 2007 10:22 am CDT 9 CommentsThere’s something NASCAR didn’t tell us about the car of tomorrow. They forgot to tell us that it was a Chevy. I mean, come on - the top eight finishers at Louden were all bow-tie boys. They were followed by the token Ford and Dodge of Kenseth and Newman. Toyota was allowed to get the poll thanks to Dave Blaney, who promptly put it in reverse for the race.
Daytona takes us back to our roots. The ugly, deformed, melted candle that is the old car. Maybe, just maybe, one of the Ram Tough , Blue Oval or…. whatever that Toyota thing is, can cheat quiet enough to steal one here.Â
Meanwhile fireworks will fly along with pithy comments to the following queries. (like that one too, Luke?).
1)Â Did the “Curse of the Bambino” extend to the Roush/Fenway–Carl Edwards pit stop?
2) Should Martin Truex Jr. have let Jeff Gordon by, seeing he had no chance of catching Hamlin?
3) Reports that had Joe Gibbs Racing switching from Chevrolet to Toyota, now seem to have reversed themselves. Who, in their right mind, would not want to drive a Chevy ?
4)Â Could the TNT television coverage possibly be the worst ever?
Remember, these are Fast Lap questions. One hundred witty words or less. ‘Course there is no limit on counter commenting. Or on wit.
Happy Fourth of July!
