Well I set my clocks back Saturday night, just like I was supposed to do. I guess I set them back about 25 hours too far though see’in’s how I’m about a day late with this post. I wasn’t even AT the Thunder Lounge last weekend. God bless those who were.

About the only way to stop Jimmy Johnson Sunday would have been to be in charge of his alarm clock. No such luck for Matt Kenseth, who drove the rubber off his used up tires trying to hold off Mr. Johnson.

Matt hung on for a well deserved second place. Martin Truex Jr shook whatever bad vibes have been surrounding the DEI stables and grabbed a nice third. Carl Edwards didn’t threaten anybody - he was probably too happy after finally clinching the anti-climactic and last Busch Series Championship. Congratulations Carl - I’m sure that Kenseth is very happy for you. Right.

And now to the meat of this sandwich - smoky hot barbecue please - the four fast flat corners of Phoenix International Raceway and this week’s Fast Lap questions.

1) Bruton Smith has purchased New Hampshire Speedway. Should NASCAR allow one of their races to move to Las Vegas?

2) Even though Jimmy Jonson won at Texas; was it a good decision to race Matt Kenseth for the win?

3) Who will do better in 2008; Junior at Hendricks or Kyle Busch at Gibbs?

4) What should NASCAR do to change the Busch (Nationwide) Series for 2008?

I know they’re a little late but pull the pillow off your head and jump in. we need content for our new blogger’s segment ON PIT ROW.

1– It is just plain wrong to take a race away from a place that has been so good at selling seats. NH needs to keep both races becauses it has earned the right to keep them. On the other hand–LV deserves another race. Logically one needs to be scarfed from an undesirving venue–like Cali. But, leave NH with a pair.

2– JJ and CK rolled the dice and it came up sevens. They could have just as easily crapped out if Kenseth, for all his respect from JJ, and his old tires had bbbled enough to send them into the wall. When you’re racing for a Cup title you have to be a bit less aggressive. In Cup racing the prize is the championship–not race wins.

3– I’ll take Shrub on this one. Gibbs will take the year of Toyota trial and error and fix the problems and give Rowdy a great ride in ‘08. Junior will continue to struggle as long as he is getting the third best equipment at Hendrick. He’s not going to move up in the pecking ording unless JJ or JG leave and that ain’t happening.

4– Plain and simple–fulltime Cup drivers should not be allowed to win a drivers championship in Nationwide Series. Limit the number of races any individual driver can enter and let the fulltime NS guys win the series championship. i don’t care what Charlie says–this is still a development series.

The “discussion” got pretty loud ON PIT ROW this week. Let’s see if the type gets heated here.

    1. The precedent has been set. Bob Barre got his extra date for New Hampshire by buying out, along with Bruton Smith, the North Wilksborough track. Smith should be able to do the same.

    2. Johnson said that he could see that Kenseth’s tires were going and he also knew that Gordon was closing. He felt he needed all the points he could get. Isn’t this what NASCAR wanted when they put additional emphasis - read more points - on winning races rather than running for points.

    3. Junior will have better equipment from the start. The best equipment in fact. Kyle will be on a new to Toyota team. No contest.

    4. Check out my blog posts at http://benchracing.typepad.com. 200 words won’t get it done.

Got something to say?
