I'm Charlie Turner co-host of the syndicated, mostly NASCAR radio show On Pit Row. Thanks for stopping by OnPitRow.com and the Bench Racing with Steve and Charlie blog. Oh yeah, Steve is an idiot.

Well wasn’t that exciting? Jimmy Johnson won the 2007 Nextel Cup Championship and Homestead-Miami Speedway. Now if only this paint would dry.

Actually, for me being neither a Johnson lover or hater, I was uncomfortable for the guy when he was running around mid-pack, sometimes three wide. He and crew chief Chad Knauss were in position for the all-time greatest give-a-way had something untoward happened. And stuff was happening all over the place. Johnny Sauter lost it seemingly all by hisown self, taking two others - Brian Vickers and someone else - along with him. Tony Stewart backed into the wall unaided as well.

In the end though, Johnson made it home and put an exclamation point on the last half of the Chase to the Cup. He stomped it good.

We may have to find our Fast Laps on the snowmobile circuit for a few weeks, but that won’t stop us.

As Larry Mac says; ” Pull those belts up real tight” and try these four, Car of Tomorrow friendly left turns on for size.

1) Did you like the duel burnout of Johnson and Kenseth after the race?

2) Was the Kasey Kahne incident at Homestead the beginning of the new tougher Budman image?

3) How will Matt Kenseth do in 2008 without Robbie Reiser as his crew chief?

4) Will Jimmie Johnson three-peat?

It’s getting chilly up here in the Midwest. But unlike most of the NASCAR shows available during the season, ON PIT ROW doesn’t stop when the racing season does. We’ll be here every week with the “Fastest Two Hours on Radio” and so will the Fast Lap blog at the Thunder Lounge. We could use you input during the show.

Like the radio announcer says; “Be there!”.

1– I’m ready for something new. Seen the burnout before–single double or the whole freaking field, lets try something new, or better yet lets just do a victory lap and go to victory lane.

2– I don’t see Kasey becoming a thug. That position is reserved for the likes of Kurt Busch or Tony Stewart. Kasey can grow a scruff and he’d look like Jeffy during the stache years.

3– Its going to be tough for Matt to transition from Robbie. Its the only chief hes had. Starting over with the whole communication thing is going to take a while.

4– No way will he three-peat. Tony will be a man possessed next year and Toyota and JGR will have it figured out early.

Yep, that’s Steve up there. Almost didn’t recognize him without the question mark on his nose.

    1. I thought Johnson upstaged the race winner there. Didn’t like it. Burnouts are alright, I guess. Better than Kurt Busch’s “snow bunny” anyway.

    2. It just struck me as the kind of stunt some desperate PR type might pull. I can’t see Kasey changing his image much.

    3. I think that Kenseth is set up to struggle. Roush’s teams don’t have very good track records following these types of changes. Reiser will be great as the GM and probably help the whole bunch, but I think Matt takes a hit in 2008.

    4. I’ll take him right now if I only get one driver. He and Knaus are the class of the series - and have been for 5 years. With the experience they have now, they could have won four in a row already.

Steve, I am a Toyota fan, as you know. They will not win the Championship in 2008 though. They very well may run off a string of them when they finally do win, but it won’t start next season. Dummy.

Got something to say?
