I'm Charlie Turner co-host of the syndicated, mostly NASCAR radio show On Pit Row. Thanks for stopping by OnPitRow.com and the Bench Racing with Steve and Charlie blog. Oh yeah, Steve is an idiot.

There’s an old movie that I kind of like called “Escape from NewYork”. I can’t help wondering if Jimmy Johnson has ever seen it and felt empathy for Kurt Russel’s character.

Everywhere you turned last week, whether online, in print or on the tube, there was Jimmy, smiling away and, usually, holding up the Nextel Cup.

I bet you can buy knock-off Nextel Cups on every street corner in the Big Apple by now.

New Yorkers by the way haven’t embraced the NASCAR bunch if comments on New York based sites and pubs are any indication. Yankee fans seem about as enthralled with Brian France’s circus as members of the Coffee belt in the great Northwest.

This week’s Fast Laps rotate around the NASCAR awards show and finish strong with one of our favorite points to debate.

1) Who should get the “Best performance at an awards banquet” prize?

2) Should the banquet be moved to another city?

3) What was the worst moment of the banquet?

4) Add a track–subtract a track?

Cinch those belts up tight and take your best shot at those four turns. ON PIT ROW needs your input.

1– This is a lot harder to answer than who was the worst. Jeff Burton was, by far, the most personable and genuine while up on the stage. His speech seemed from the heart and to the point. Jeff is maybe the straightest shooter of any current driver.

2– I believe there needs to be more fan interaction with the awards banquet. There doesn’t seem to be much of a party atmosphere with the banquet in NYC. Lets move it to Vegas and see what happens. I forsee a big party and lots more fun for everybody.

3– No brainer–David Spade made Jay Mohr look like Bob Hope. There weren’t many laughs in the audience but there was plenty of cringing. I only hope the entertainment commitee comes up with a winner in ‘08.

4– Cali sucks and needs to be axed. Add a couple of road courses. As David Poole said ON PIT ROW: The car of ‘08 will make the road course races the best of the bunch. Poole is right on with that one.

Got something to say?
