Wasn’t it just a week ago that much of the NASCAR world was ready to concede the 2008 version of the Sprint Cup pre-season championship to Kyle Busch? Kyle finished dead last in Sunday’s Pocono 500. Busch the Younger’s points lead now is only 21 over steady Jeff Burton.
Here’s a question for you. Most of the descriptions of the Shrub have been along the lines of spectacular, dominating or fabulous. But I just called his closest challenger, steady Jeff. Does that mean that spectacular is over-rated? Tortoise and the hare re-visited?
Ponder that and while at it, give us your take on four high banked, Michigan-made Fast Lap questions. We’ll keep an eye on the weather maps heading into the first race weekend at MIS this year.
1. Was Kyle Busch’ “doing the triple” taking on too much considering the results?
2. Will we see airconditioning in Cup cars any time soon?
3. Granted it’s his sponsor; but is it bad form for Kasey Kahne to be drinking a Bud during his post race interview?
4. McMurray and Bowyer say they are staying with their respective teams. Will there be less movement than originally thought?
It’s supposed to be hotter than Kasey Kahne this weekend in the Irish Hills. The ON PIT ROW Pit Crew will be busy with the ARCA RE/MAX Series race on Friday and NASCAR the rest of the time. Throw your wittiest answers in the comment section here and I might just bring you something nice from the track**.

1. no. It was’t too much for drivers to drive 1100 miles in a single day when doing the Indy 500 Charlottle 600 double in a single day with little or no break between the two.
Why should 3 events spread over just less than 48 hours and consisting of “only” 1050 miles AND jetted to all three via private jet to any more tiring?
2. Buwawawahahaha! yeah right!!!! Just after we see Whitwall tires of Goodyear racing Eagles.
3. Why? He’s of age. It’s no more of a problem than any one of dozens of prime-time TV shows that depict much worse.
4. Yeah, that’s what McMurray says. We’ll see.
1– If Shrub would have won all three race, everyone would have been saying he was the next Mario or AJ (Foyt not Almendinger). But he didn’t; and the fact that his results went down as the weekend went on, leads to second guessing. Personally, I think it was a hotdog move with extra mustard.
2– Before the end of 2009–guaranteed!
3– We live in a world that won’t let Budweiser appear on a diecast toy because little Johnnie might drink a beer sometime during his life. A beer can be opened and held on a prime time network TV show, but not drank by an adult, it is unusual that NASCAR would allow its drivers to chug a brew in victory lane.
4– Filling the 4th seat a RCR will allow what dominoes that will fall to fall. But I don’t see wholesale changes. This will end up being a year where its better to know what you have than to search out the unknown.
1. Yeah, I think it was. I agree with Steve’s point about “if” he’d won all three races, but the point is that he didn’t - and, he only came close to winning the first one.
2. Not likely.
3. I really don’t see a problem with it. I mean, if we’re thinking from the “he’s a role model for young children” perspective, then the parent sitting next to him in the stands that was allowed to bring their own case of beer into the track with them isn’t helping the cause much either.
4. Yeah, there’ll definitely be less movement than originally thought, but I’m not entirely convinced that McMurray’s staying put. I think the real wild card here remains with what Ryan Newman decides to do.
1. I don’t believe he was taking on too much, but it wasn’t a very smart thing to do, in hindsight. I don’t know what he had to gain by running all three, other than that’s what he wants to do, and he still has designs on the Nationwide title.
2. No, and I hope not, either.
3. I seem to remember the previous driver of the Bud car doing this fairly often after a race, so so, it’s not a big deal. That’s the best kind of sponsorship: one you can enjoy after a hard day at work.
4. The dominoes will fall, I don’t believe anyone knows what will happen right now. I hadn’t heard Bowyer in any sort of job jeopardy, that comes as a surprise. McMurray will not be in the #26 next year.

I didn’t realize people would make such a big deal of it. People were trying to blame his error in the Cup race on fatigue, but that was an error in judgement like many other drivers have made in the past, kind of like Dale Earnhardt, Jr trying to block the faster moving second line at Talladega a few weeks ago.

2. Will we see airconditioning in Cup cars any time soon?
No. With the firesuit, helmet, and other equipment, and the oil tank behind the driver, it won’t make any difference anyway.

Why would it be bad? Hey, it’s NASCAR. Beer and NASCAR go well together.

I don’t see Jack giving up his fifth team untill he has to, unless he wants to give Darnell or Braun a ride right away, McMurray will be there next year.
