I know that in the land of NASCAR , praying for rain on a race weekend is blasphemous. Condemn me all you want. I loved that race in the wet stuff up at Montreal on Saturday.

I’ve been waiting ever since NASCAR announced, years ago its intention to rain race in the Nationwide Series, for the clouds to open. They did in Canada. The results were a blast to watch. It sound like it was fun to drive in too. I hope NASCAR takes what they learned about wiperss and, maybe tail lights, and lets the guys try again someday.

Carl Edwards is on the march in the Sprint Cup Series. Kyle Busch and Team Gibbs are showing that they may be human afterall. And the Race to the Chase is heating up, bigtime.

The Fast Lap will be right in the middle of that heat too. Take a shot at turning left and right this week.

1: Which of The Chase Bubble Boys; Harvick, Kenseth, Bowyer or Ragan, will make the playoffs?

2: Even though it didn’t work out for them, was the no-pit strategy of the #9, before the rain the right call?

3: Carl Edwards’ post race interview included wondering if the car would pass post race inspection. What motivation could he have had for that statement?

4: Of all the road course ringers available for Watkins Glen, why is Kyle Petty back in the #45 car for this one race?

We have big plans to take this Fast Lap discussion to another level. Now that the site has been upgraded, we are getting close to producing our first ever Fast Lap Show, featuring your comments and opinions on selected weekly Fast Lap questions. So sharpen up your arguments and tear your fellow Fast Lappers new ones. It’s all part of the deal here at OnPitRow.com.

    1. One is almost compelled to go with the vets Harvick and Kenseth.

But I’m gonna take a flyer on Ragan, he’s been so consistent over the last six weeks it belies the fact it’s only his second year in Cup. (And tosses egg in the face of all those complaining about him as a “wreck-master” last year.)

    2. It was at the time, whose to say different other than the 20×20 hind-sighters?

    3. Not sure, this is the first I’ve heard the story. Maybe he had an “oil tank flashback?”

    4. Umm… er… my dome is bald from scratching it!!!!

    1. I see Ragan getting in and Tony Stewart just missing. I just think that this new team thing will take enough of Tony’s edge off to cost him the Chase spot.

    2. Somebody was going to try it. But that was a pretty good car, and the rain had been spotty all weekend. I think the#9 took the long odds and missed. Bad call.

    3. I hope it was a joke. But maybe there is tension in the #99 garage. There was quite a bit of sniping going on - at least public sniping, which is unusual for a NASCAR team.

    4. Well, as it turned out, he wasn’t. But without that knowledge, I’d say that Kyle has had some success on road courses. In fact he has a Cup win at the Glen. WhOnly 3 or 4 other starters could say that. If you are going to let him race, why not let him race where he has had success.

1– I’m just not seeing Harvick making the deal. I like Ragan a lot and think this is a break out year for him.

2– Are ya running for wins or are ya running for a championship? If you are running to win a championship then you have look at the big picture. safe calls are what wins championships or at least gets them into the Chase.

3– Carl is still a young gun and sometimes young guns misfire. Learn to keep your mouth shut Carl. NASCAR is unforgiving when it comes to cheating, so don’t give them any ideas.

4– Maybe the budget was short. Kyle hasn’t been at his best in a long, long time. This should have been a no brainer from the git go. Luckily Mother Nature stepped in and provided a more capable driver in Boris.

Got something to say?
