Bristol was interesting wasn’t it?  Nothing like a little short track carnage and door banging to spice up the final two weeks of NASCAR’s Race to the Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship.

There is still a race for the last few spots in the Chase top twelve.  Clint Bowyer, in 12th is only 12 points up on steady David Ragan.  Jeff Gordon, Matt Kenseth and Denny Hamlin are in right now and Kasey Kahne is not.  The two race showdown is all that is left.

First up is the two miler at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California.  The track is a near twin to Michigan and two weeks ago, MIS hosted the Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards show.  Of course, last weekend’s Bristol night race was a Carl and Kyle show - with a side of short track fireworks.

These two really only have the twenty remaining bonus points - that are up for grabs to the winners of Fontana and Richmond - to race for.   Carl grabbed the ten extra points for  Bristol with his bump-to-pass move.  Can’t wait to see what happens next.

Until then, we have four fast variably banked and slickly paved Fast Lap questions for your debating pleasure.

1: Given his history with Hendrick and Ganassi; can Casey Mears’ move to the #07 car be successful?

2: Is the racing better to watch at the new Bristol?

3: Will “Magnetgate” change the way you view Joe Gibbs, JD Gibbs and/or Joe Gibbs Racing?

4: Will having the Labor Day weekend race move to Atlanta at night be enough to stop the nostalgia mongers from calling for a return to Darlington?

You can bang doors, bump pass, even wreck your competitors in this race.  The Fast Lap doesn’t cater to whiners.  Kyle.

    1. Short answer, no. If he can’t be competitive at Hendrick where can he be? NNS or NCTS maybe?

    2. I think so but the CoT haters will never concede that. What once was a single groove track for the most part is now two grooves. When was the lat time so many passes were made on the high side at Bristol as seen this past weekend?

    3. No, there’s no reason to believe it was nothing more than an isolated incident performed by two or three village idiots.

    4. BUWAWAHAHA… that’s funny, you trying out for Jay Lenos job? (gotta be better than the red-headed step child they have cued up)

Nothing short of a frontal lobotomy will stop the nostalgia mongers.

1: Can? Sure, it can… but odds are it won’t. I thought it was a mistake to break up the #25 team last season, they were solid and Mears moved up to a respectable points position. Mears has been paired with a new team every year in the past several, maybe continuity will do him some good. This is his last chance.

2: If it were any track other than Bristol, yes. However for a lot of fans including myself, remember the “old” Bristol and the battle it was. Was it good racing? Maybe not. It was a feeling. The new Bristol looks to be coming around but it’s an adjustment.

3: Show me a team not trying to get an advantage, and I’ll show you a team running 35th every week. My opinion hasn’t and won’t change. Gibbs has been the class of the field in Sprint Cup and Nationwide this year.

4: You could put the race back in Darlington on Labor Day, and they would still complain something. The date switches improve the schedule and that’s good enough for me.

1– Casey did nothing with bottom of the pecking order cars at Ganassi and Hendrick. The 07 becomes the botpo ride at RCR. In this case one plus one plus one does equal three.

2– Maybe if your there and you can see the moves for twelve. On the tele it turns pretty lame.

3– Their squeeky clean image may have the casual fan feeling lied to. But every body in the garage is looking for an advantage somewhere. They have done nothing different than any other team. Slap them and lets go racing.

4– Nope–it won’t and shouldn’t. There is no reason in the world to not have the Labor Day Southern 500 at Darlington at night. It will fill the seats and thats all you can expect. If all the other venues sell out then there is no net loss of butts.

Got something to say?
