Thunderous Fast Laps in the Shadow of the Thunder Lounge

I'm Charlie Turner co-host of the syndicated, mostly NASCAR radio show On Pit Row. Thanks for stopping by OnPitRow.com and the Bench Racing with Steve and Charlie blog. Oh yeah, Steve is an idiot.

Let’s not kid each other, OK? Jimmy Johnson has this thing about as locked up as a chastity belt on prom night or the next Detroit Lions opponent. Johnson’s going to win the Sprint Cup - his third straight - unless aliens come down from the Planet Roush and take Jimmy and Chad Knaus away to some world that’s never heard of bump-stops, restrictor plates or the difference between loose and tight

But that doesn’t mean that there’s nothing to argue about. This here Fast Lap blog will never run out of topics that Steve can raise the idiot quotient on. Like the four fast, high-banked doozies that follow.

1: The truck series saw Ryan Newman pass teammate Ron Hornaday to win, but cost Hornaday 10 points in his championship battle. Should there have been team orders?

2: How can Carl Edwards be happy with the tire at Atlanta while most other drivers were complaining about no grip?

3: Does AJ Allmendinger being the best finishing Gillett-Evernham car again show that he’s better than the equipment he had been driving?

4: Because David Reuttiman could have won the Nationwide race if he had “moved” Carl Edwards out of the way on the final lap, but didn’t; is he a good sport or a fool?

Let fly with your opinions but be prepared to defend yourself.  Because there are no limits to Steve’s confidense in his positions. Or my disdain for the same. The Fast Lap is NASCAR debate. You can hear it live at OnPitRow.com every Tuesday at 5 PM ET or do the digital version right here any day of the week.

    1) There are no team orders in NASCAR, right? And a hell no on top of it. Harvick said race, but don’t wreck. They did that, and it was a great show.

    2) Have you seen what/where he grew up racing? He loves it like that.

    3) I think I could agree with that. He’s not the next gift to racing, but he’s better than the equipment showed.

    4) Both. While commendable that he took the high ground, if that situation were reversed he’d have still finished second.

Charlie - “Let’s not kid each other, OK? Jimmy Johnson has this thing about as locked up as a chastity belt on prom night.”

Obviously your prom night wasn’t as productive as mine.

Too bad for you. Or was it a good thing for her?

    1. No.
    2. He won, the others lost. Need I say more?
    3. Most probably. Of all the open wheelers he and Dario was at the top of the list talent wise.
    4. Interesting question, but it’s rather subjective, and dependent on whether your a “fan” or not. Kind of like the “anti-Jr” fans that claim he’s too “soft” or has no “killer instinct.”

1: Team orders are for F 1 wimps!

2: It ain’t the tires. But that is the convenient excuse that everyone BUT Edwards uses. The #99 has the car figured out on the intermediates. So does the #48.

3: It sure is looking that way. AJ came a long way from the beginning of 2007 to now. Some team will reap the benefits in 2009.

4: Good racer who will never win the championship. See- Jeff Burton.

1– You have to prioritize. What is more important a win or a championship? A driver winning a championship should take priority over a single win.

2– Carl is a man amongst boys.

3– Ask Mike Skinner and Ken Shrader about the quality of cars that AJ had been driving.

4– I vote for chump. If the rolls had been reversed there is no doubt what the outcome would have been.

Got something to say?
