At least Robby Gordon got to race in a resurrected Dakar Rally this past week. Made a hell of a showing too.

The rest of those of us with a racin’ jones – at least of the NASCAR variety – had to endure more Petty drama and Ganassi gnews. I’m tired of this stuff. We need to get back on the track, ya know?

Steve’s doing his best. Ferreting out stuff for him, me and hopefully some of you all to argue about. That’s what this Fast Lap thing is all about. NASCAR debate. It gets pretty lively ON PIT ROW sometimes. Try these four fast ones. Leave your comments here or call us for free on Tuesday at 5 PM ET for free at 877-502-8255.

1: Should NASCAR be okay with letting Robby Gordon run a Dodge in the Shootout?

2: Who will be the odd man out at Yates Racing now that Bobby Labonte is in the fold with the HOF Racing satellite ride?

3: Should NASCAR follow Michael Waltrip’s advice and ban on track testing permanently?

4: Two no-brainer selections for the first Hall of Fame class.

Personally, I think the “no brainer” question is unfair. Steve, after all, has an advantage on those. But what the hey. Give it a shot. It’s the Fast Lap at OnPitRow.com.

Um, who cares is the better question.

2: Who will be the odd man out at Yates Racing now that Bobby Labonte is in the fold with the HOF Racing satellite ride?

I’m thinkin’ Gilliland, but my tea leaves have been brewed more than once and are tired, very tired!

3: Should NASCAR follow Michael Waltrip’s advice and ban on track testing permanently?

Only if there’s some way to stop testing at non-sanctioned tracks. That’s near impossible, so in reality testing will probably resume when it’s economically viable.

4: Two no-brainer selections for the first Hall of Fame class.

Richard Petty and Fred Lorenzen. (winner of one in every [approx] six events he entered)

    1. Should NASCAR be OK, I’m going to go Allen Iverson for a minute: Practice? We’re talkin’ bout practice! Practice! That’s all the Bud Shootout is, practice. The cars themselves are all the same and it may be awkward for interviews, but I don’t see the big deal. Robby’s his own entity anyway. He would build his own car and call it a Gordon and race the thing if he could.

    2. David Gilliland hands down. Send him packing ASAP. One fluke win a career does not make, just ask Justin Labonte.

    3. An emphatic hell no. The best system, which some have advocated for years, is to open up the track on Fridays all day for no-holds barred testing – the computers hooked up and whatever else, then have a practice session on Saturday morning, qualify the cars, then race Sunday. Probably won’t happen, but that’s the best solution. If Mikey says it I tend to think the opposite as a rule.

    4. David Pearson and Junior Johnson. Pearson could make an argument for being the greatest driver ever, statistically he would have won many more races and championships if he had run the full schedules back in the day. Petty himself says Pearson was the toughest driver he ever raced against. Junior was a great driver and became a great owner, his accomplishments and storytelling make him a treasure to the sport.

1– Robby can do whatever he wnats to do, but the whole Bud Shootout deal is a joke. Let everybody who shows up race in the blasted thing and be done with it.

2– Gilliland was pretty much gonzo before the ink was dry writing the question.

3– I’ve got to give a 100% with Matt and Marc on this one. Ban practice everywhere except at the track on Friday or Thursday before the event–now that makes sense.

4– Big Bill France and Petty get my vote. Big Bill had to have the vision and Richard pulled the fans in for two decades.
